Wellness Action Plan
We all have mental health, just as we have physical health. Mental wellbeing describes your mental state; how you are feeling and how well you can cope with day-to-day life.
We want to raise more awareness that every individual is likely to experience periods of feeling down, stressed or frightened throughout their lives, and this is completely normal. Most of the time those feelings pass. But sometimes they develop into a more serious problem and that could happen to any one of us, so we think it’s really important to continue to talk about how we feel and look out for any signs that we are unwell so the relevant support can be put in place to prevent any issues from escalating.
We are all responsible for our own self-care and mental health, but a Wellness Action Plan (WAP) can be used to better understand what steps you can take to support your own mental health at work and details what line managers can do to provide you with the relevant support:
- It is a tool for everyone to use; you don't need to have a mental illness in order to feel the benefits. It just means that you already have practical steps in place to develop your own personal coping strategies and ensure you are supported when you aren't feeling great.
- It helps develop an awareness of your working style, stress triggers and responses, and enables you to communicate these to your manager and agree what support is needed at that point.
- It can facilitate the conversation, it can help you and your manager to agree together, how to practically support you in your role and address any individual needs.
- The information in this form will be held confidentially and regularly reviewed by you and your manager together.
- You only need to provide information that you are comfortable sharing and that relates to your role and workplace.
- Please read the WAP Guidance for Colleagues or the WAP Guidance for Managers prior to completing this Wellness Action Plan for further details.
