We've launched our new Recruitment and Selection Policy and Hiring Guides, alongside new online training on how to recruit at GC – and what systems you need to use.
The Internal Recruitment team has worked with managers across GC to review our current hiring practices.
Our GC Recruitment and Selection Policy hadn't been reviewed end-to-end since 2017, so we needed to make sure our written policies and procedures reflected the great work we’ve been doing since the introduction of the Internal Recruitment Team in 2019.
We also wanted to ensure that our people managers, are fully equipped with the correct and most up-to-date tools when hiring new colleagues.
Streamlined Recruitment and Selection Policy and Hiring Guides (for colleagues and hiring managers)
- We’ve removed procedural details from the policy itself and created separate resources for both the Hiring Manager and Internal Colleagues who apply for internal GC opportunities. This separation has made the policy more concise, while providing detailed guidance to relevant parties in a more practical format.
- The policy is now an overview of our commitments as an employer and helps communicate the broader GC principles and goals, without getting lost in the details of implementation, making the documents more accessible and easier to understand for our diverse workforce.
The updated Policy now reflects our recruitment and selection current practices – there are some minor changes that we’ve introduced following feedback from hiring managers:
- Feedback to Internal Colleagues – all colleagues and their Line Managers must now receive interview feedback from all stages of the application process from the Hiring Manager to support with career development.
- The Internal Recruitment team will notify Line Managers by email of an application made by a member of their team.
- Our internal recruitment agency Aspire will gain 5 days of exclusivity on both temporary and permanent vacancies when the internal recruitment team requires additional support.
- Applicants can request flexible working from as early as the recruitment stage.
Recruitment Training Module on PAL
To assist with the new Policy and Hiring Manager Guide, we’ve created a comprehensive Recruitment Training Module that’s available on PAL.
All Hiring Managers must complete this training in conjunction with the ‘Understanding Your Bias Training’. The Internal Recruitment team will manage this process by creating a training register.
