Our 2023 EDI Statistics

Each year we measure across all our workforce EDI data, which helps us to continually improve and make sure we’re supporting our colleagues, representing the communities we work in, and tailoring the services we provide. Our statistics are based on colleagues who have disclosed information. In summary, our 2023 report shows:

In summary, our 2023 report shows:

  • We have 1471 colleagues, down from 1613 – this impacts on the data we’ve collected and we expect colleague numbers to fluctuate due to the nature of our work.

  • Between June 2022 and June 2023, we onboarded 357 colleagues; 63 colleagues were from diverse ethnic communities (17.6%).

  • 16.5% of our colleagues are from diverse ethnic community backgrounds (since November 2023 to date) – an increase from 12% over the past three years. ONS* data from Greater Manchester shows we’re not quite representative (38.10%), but are more representative within our ethnic communities in England.

  • The number of colleagues with a declared disability has increased by 1.4% points from 12.3% to 13.7% in the past year. ONS data within Greater Manchester shows individuals with disabilities at 23%. Although we’re not representative of GM, the proportion of those declared against our total headcount displays that we’re fairly representative within GC.

  • 60% of our colleagues are female, and 58% of our managers are female. ONS data shows that women made up 51% of the population of England and Wales, and males made up 49%.

  • LGBTQ+ representation has increased to 9% (since November 2023 to date) – that’s an increase from 6% in 2020.

  • 431 colleagues are in the 25-34 age range, this is an increase of 1.2% since 2022. Within Greater Manchester, we’re representative with the 35-49 age category as the average age at GC is 41.

  • The Growth Company has a gender pay gap (where men are being paid more than women) of 0.6% - the UK gender pay gap recorded by the ONS in 2023 was 7.7%. 14.9% was recorded in 2022.
  • We look at our ethnicity pay gap, which we are committed to reporting (this is not a requirement) and this stands at 1%.
  • Our 2022 Colleague Survey provide insight into perceptions of equity and belonging at GC, and our efforts to drive improvement across EDI:
