Each year, we hold our annual Mencap Shoebox appeal where we work together with amazing volunteers to wrap shoeboxes and fill them with essential items for homeless people and vulnerable children across Manchester.
On Thursday 12th December, we had the privilege of hosting customers from Mencap and Pure Innovations, alongside incredible volunteers from the University of Manchester, Bupa, Worldpay, and teams from across GC.
Together, alongside some music, fun and laughter they achieved something truly special:
- 50 shoeboxes wrapped and filled with winter essentials and festive treats for homeless individuals.
- 30 shoeboxes wrapped and filled with exciting gifts for vulnerable children.
Frank Kinrade, Business Development Manager at Aspire Recruitment helped organise the annual event. He reflected on this year's achievement:
"With a fantastic team effort, we packed these boxes with toys, games, personal hygiene items, socks, gloves, scarves, hand warmers, and Christmas goodies. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed items or donated to GC’s One Big Drop Off initiative!
"Our volunteers took to the streets of Manchester, delivering boxes directly to those in need. The remaining shoeboxes were donated to Barnabus, a local homeless charity, ensuring even more people could feel the warmth of your kindness. The day after the event, Mencap volunteers delivered the boxes for vulnerable children, spreading joy just in time for the holidays.
"From an initial group of eight volunteers, this initiative has grown tremendously year-on-year. We welcomed 50 volunteers from across our business and partner organisations, all coming together to make a difference."
