Whether retirement is far off or fast approaching, understanding how you’ll fund your post-work lifestyle is essential – essentials and indulgences require proper financial preparation.
But how much is enough? And what standard of living could you afford in retirement? In August, Clare Stinton, Hargreaves Lansdown’s resident pension expert is hosting two live webinars talking all things retirement.
The information in this article and upcoming webinar isn’t personal advice. If you’re not sure if a course of action is right for you, please ask about financial advice.

Tuesday 27 August – 3pm to 4pm
Thursday 29 August – 10am to 11am
In this session Clare will explore some of the most common questions about planning for retirement and funding life after work:
- How much you might spend in retirement
- What’s the magic number you need saved in a pension?
- Things to consider about income in retirement
- What size emergency fund will you need?
What’s moving markets?
Last month’s session covered investment options and took a wider look at investment markets so far in 2024. Please keep in mind this recording is not personal advice. If you’re unsure, please ask about financial advice.

Important notes
You can’t normally take money from your pension until age 55 (57 from 2028). All investments, including those in your pension, can fall as well as rise in value, so you could get back less than you invest.
