‘Outcomes Star’ is an evidence-based tool for both supporting and measuring change and it is used within our GC Employment services.
It's essentially a family of evidence-based tools for measuring and supporting change when working with people and is a unique and innovative way for frontline services to demonstrate their impact whilst improving their keywork.
It's widely used in the UK by national and local charities, Local Authorities, the NHS, Police, schools, housing associations, care and support services and it is underpinned by three values – empowerment, collaboration and integration – which sets it apart from traditional approaches.
GC uses ‘Outcomes Star’ to support our CFO Activity Hubs, Ministry of Justice ETE and Personal Wellbeing services and programmes – which allows identification of softer outcomes, robust goal setting and monitoring of distance travelled.
Our use of the tool was recently highlighted as a strength in our recent matrix assessment and re-accreditation.
Triangle, a consulting social enterprise who are the service provider of ‘Outcomes Star’, will be interviewing GC colleagues Rosie Wright, (Quality Manager) and Ewelina Gryglak, (Curriculum and Quality Improvement Manager) to highlight our use of ‘Outcomes Star’ as a case study to other organisations around how to use the tool effectively – which will feature on the 'Outcomes Star' website.
This is fantastic news and highlights the dedication of our colleagues. It also demonstrates that, as an organisation, we're utilising the 'Outcomes Star' tool effectively and that it has high value, both to participants and to our colleagues, and promotes the strength and accuracy of our teams’ support and services.
On featuring in the case story, Rosie Wright told us:
"We're delighted that GC has been chosen for a case study as well as highlighted as a best-practice user of the Outcome Stars tool. The case study provides us with an opportunity to showcase the great work being carried out on GC services and the extra mile that our teams go to in supporting our customers."
Ewelina explained what shining a light on GC's use of 'Outcomes Star' means to her:
"We initially decided to use the Outcome Stars on the Justice contracts to encourage more participant engagement, ownership of the Support/Action Planning process and ongoing reflection on participants’ own development whilst on the project.
"With over 70% of Criminal Justice Service participants being neurodivergent, 'progress' will have a different meaning for each of them; therefore, it was important that we were in position to capture and celebrate even the smallest wins, whilst still maintaining a standardised approach to measuring impact against the starting points.
"It is always great to see the participants willingly engage in the initial self-assessment and then having their scores plotted on the Star Online, and the review process highlights how impactful the visual aspect of the Star is in terms of enabling the participants to see where and how they have progressed."
