Showcasing our employment offer following extension of Restart

GC is an experienced supply chain partner on the Restart Scheme across the north of England, including in South Yorkshire, where we deliver on behalf of Maximus.

Following the government’s decision to extend the scheme for two years, we're now inviting local partners and stakeholders to visit our Barnsley and Doncaster offices next month for 'Restart Scheme Refresh' explanatory sessions to learn about our future plans.

The scheme is a Department for Work and Pensions initiative that provides tailored, intensive support to people who have been on Universal Credit for more than 6 months, helping them to overcome barriers to employment through coaching, CV and interview skills, and training.

New ‘Through the Gate’ Contract

Recovery Works, GC’s charity working with individuals to support them to recover from addiction, improve their physical and mental wellbeing and secure sustainable employment, has secured a new contract for individuals in custody with substance misuse issues.

The contract is our first with the Practice Plus Group, who already have a national footprint as one of the country’s leading private, insured and NHS healthcare providers. It'll support men, pre and post release from HMP Risley and HMP Thorn Cross prisons in Cheshire, helping them to focus on training and employment whilst still supporting with onward social prescription and wider resettlement issues.

Leeanne Spencer, GC Service Manager for the new contract, told us

"We are very excited to win this new contract, which will provide a great opportunity for service users who often struggle with the readjustment from a custody setting back into the community."

Alex Howley, GC Operations Director, said:

"GC is committed to expanding its health and justice services, so this new contract comes at a great time for us as it will enable us to combine the two areas, as well as working with a brand new provider in the field."
