Valued STAR (Special Thanks And Recognition) Awards is our GC monthly recognition scheme.

You can nominate a colleague to be a Valued STAR for going above and beyond in demonstrating our GC values, exhibiting a positive and supportive attitude and continually doing great work.

You can read about our recent winners, including why they were nominated here.

How to nominate a colleague

  • To nominate a colleague for an award, just complete the quick and easy form on GC Hive.
  • You can nominate anyone from across GC for an award, whether it's someone from a different business area, someone in your team, or even your line manager.
  • Nominations are open to the last day of the month.

How the monthly winners are selected

  • Nominations are reviewed by a designated panel at the start of the following month. It's made up of a member of SMT, a HR representative, an Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) group member and an Employee Consultative Committee lead.
  • The panel will shortlist nominations received and then decide who'll be awarded a Valued STAR Award.
  • Our Valued STARs for that month will receive a certificate of recognition and thanks presented to them by a member of their management team. Additionally, they'll each receive a multi-retailer gift voucher and a nominal gift.

Here's what receiving a Valued STAR Award has meant to our recent winners:

Emma Woolley, Financial Transactions Manager (Finance)

"It's rewarding to receive recognition for your hard work and achievements, especially when they are often unseen outside your team. I treated myself to some new shoes!"

Paul Vicario, Social Value Specialist (GMBGH)

"The Valued STAR Award was really nice recognition to have and I was really grateful for the people who nominated me. It's nice to have that peer recognition. I ended up spending my voucher on some Lego for my nephew... ok it was for me..."

Taymer Pugh, Key Account Manager - Relationships & Place (GMBGH)

"Receiving the STAR award was a lovely surprise. I had done some work with a Key Account client, which involved a lengthy job creation task and wanted to collaborate with a number of other Specialist teams who had supported the business over the past few months, so for my hard-work to be recognised by other team members was really appreciated. The £50 is still sat in my Hive account, but will be being spent on a lovely new feather duvet for my new home!"

Leah Morton, Recruitment & Placement Consultant (Aspire Recruitment)

"Winning the Valued STAR Award was a wonderful recognition of my hard work and reinforced my passion for what we do at Aspire. I used the Amazon voucher to pick up a few home decoration items I’d had my eye on for a while, which was a lovely treat. The Valued STAR Award is a fantastic way to show appreciation for colleagues and the efforts they put in."

Janette Eaton, Early Arrears Management Officer (Finance)

"Winning the award was a lovely surprise. Although most of us do not take on extra tasks or do something out of our remit for a reward, it is lovely to know your work is appreciated. As I received my award just before Christmas it went on extra treats for my grandchildren."

Paul Gauden, Senior Enquiries Advisor (GMBGH)

"It was just nice to be nominated to be honest, I think when you believe in something it doesn't necessarily feel like you're doing anything special - but it's great when others recognise your efforts. I moved house just before Christmas, so the voucher has come in very handy and will be used towards my home office set-up."
