Recruitment and additional annual leave FAQs

We wanted to make you aware of a couple of initiatives the Group have taken forward and are implementing across all business areas in relation to our recruitment approach and share some FAQs on the additional annual leave.

Firstly, we wanted to tell you about our new commitment to ‘Ban the Box’. Ban the Box is a campaign to increase opportunities for people with convictions to compete for jobs. We’re supporting the campaign by removing questions relating to convictions from application forms.

Instead, we will now gather and consider this information at the conditional offer stage via the New Starter form during our on-boarding process. All hiring managers will only ask successful candidates for their criminal convictions at the job offer stage.

The process for DBS checking has not changed and all adverts will be clear in terms of which roles require a DBS check.

Priority interviewing for black, Asian and minority ethnic applicants

Part of our People and OD plan and our pledge is to become a more diverse workforce. We want to increase the opportunities we offer to individuals from all backgrounds including black, Asian and minority ethnic applicants so we are more inclusive.

Therefore, we are now introducing a guaranteed interview scheme for black, Asian and minority ethnic applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the role. Recruiting managers will continue with the current process of assessing applicants against the role-specific criteria and notify HR who will then inform them of any black, Asian and minority ethnic applicants that will be included in the interview selection. This mirrors the process we currently follow for applicants with a disability who meet the minimum assessment criteria.

If you have any questions about this, please contact the Recruitment team.
