Here at GC, our Health & Wellbeing and EDI Network is committed to promoting good health and wellbeing by creating an open, inclusive and supportive culture. As an employer, we have a duty of care to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our colleagues, but we also feel it is the right thing to do. This includes promoting good health and wellbeing practices and signposting to further support and resources.
On 'Brew Monday' (which is on 20th January), Samaritans is reminding everyone to reach out for a cuppa and a catch-up with the people you care about.
There's no such thing as ‘Blue Monday’, because feeling low isn’t just something that happens on Mondays, or a random day in January.
Samaritans are encouraging everyone to say 'out with the blue and in with the brew'.
We're encouraging colleagues to host your own Brew Monday event, virtually or in person. You can also check-out Samaritan's activity downloadable resources here.
Please remember that, once someone starts to share how they’re feeling, it’s important to listen. This could mean not offering advice, not trying to identify what they’re going through with your own experiences and not trying to solve their problems.
You can find out more about Active Listening in our Dignity at Work Toolkit here. For more suggestions about how to be a good listener, take a look at our SHUSH active listening tips and our little tips to help someone open up.
We also have Suicide Awareness Training which you can access on PAL to increase your skills and confidence in supporting colleagues:
