Ramadan is a significant time for our Muslim colleagues, clients, and participants and is marked by fasting from dawn to sunset, increased prayer, reflection, and charity.
This year, Ramadan began on the evening of Friday 28th February 2025 which was confirmed based on the sighting of the moon. Ramadan lasts between 29-30 days and is predicted to end on the evening of Saturday 29th March or Sunday 30th March.
Fasting Muslims will refrain from food and water from sunrise to sunset throughout this time. Non-fasting Muslims still observe Ramadan spiritually, through prayer, charity and community connection.
Tips for supporting colleagues
- Understand that people who are fasting may be more tired or less energetic, especially towards the end of the day.
- If possible, offer flexibility to accommodate early morning or late evening prayers. As Ramadan is demanding of the body and mind, many colleagues will make use of our flexible working policy. Speak to your line manager to explore if this would be beneficial to you.
- Try to schedule meetings that do not revolve around food, especially during lunch hours.
- Be mindful of prayer times and provide a quiet space to pray if available.
- Encourage open dialogue and ask colleagues how you can best support them.
