With PRD's now open it's a good time to think about your career and assess where you are in your journey, and where you want to be.
In each edition of GC News we've been showcasing you some of our colleagues and how they came to be in the roles that they are in, whilst some have left us and then returned, others have progressed from one role to another. Have you thought about what you want to do?
During National Inclusion Week, our EDI networks focused on how you can choose your own journey, whilst this could be looking at your career journey as Ali Tanveer did, it can also mean taking a look at what your doing now and if you want to make any changes.
With PRD's now open its a good time to think about your journey and your career progression.
Career progression is moving forward in your career, which isn’t just limited to promotions or higher pay, it can include gaining more responsibility, moving to a different business area, tackling new challenges, and enhancing skills through training and development.
To understand more about how you can progress at GC please read this blog.
The best ways to progress your careers internally within GC is to:
- Identify what you are doing and where you want to be and/or if you are thinking about a career change speak to your line manager for an initial discussion.
- Set some goals - think about the skills you already have and the ones you need to develop, and give yourself a realistic timeframe to achieve these.
- Have a look at the opportunities available to you within GC, whether that's through skills, PAL training, internal vacancies or if your manager can give you more responsibilities within your existing role.
- Make a note of your achievements, and bring it up at your PRD with your manager. Highlight what you have achieved. Take a look at your existing workload, and check if you can improve or build upon anything to help you progress.
- Step out of your comfort zone. Push yourself to improve, ask your manager to help you with this.
You can also join an EDI Network, Team Green or take advantage of the 2-day volunteering policy we have.
