EnterprisingYou team volunteer at Woodhouse Park Family Centre

Our EnterprisingYou team at GM Business Growth Hub got stuck into a day of volunteering recently at Woodhouse Park Family Centre. They're an award winning charity that's been providing support for vulnerable children and families in Wythenshawe for over 30 years.

Julian Guest, Business Advisor/Enterprise Specialist told us how it went:

"We came together and completely freshened up one of the centres main rooms from top to bottom, giving the space a serene and calming feel. Teamwork, lots of brews and the odd sandwich got the job done. The centre staff were chuffed, and so were all of our team."

Great work from Paul Norris, Vikki Bradbury, Jane Jones, Brian Cresswell, Alex Miller, Andy Mather and all those who helped financially.

Restart colleague volunteers for the Canal & River Trust

Denice Holden, Employment Advisor in our Restart team volunteers for the Canal & River Trust, with a placement at Fairfield, Droylsden.

She's been volunteering there now for 2 months supporting with litter picking, gardening/planting and completing repairs and maintenance of the tow paths. Denice tools us:

“I started with the Canal & River Trust in January 2024 through a post on Facebook. I really enjoy spending time, either cycling or walking along the canal and wanted to be a part of keeping them in a condition that makes it enjoyable, not just for me but everyone.

"I have taken from the experience a greater appreciation keeping your environment clean, a better understanding of the impact, litter has on wildlife and a sense of pride when the public comment on the work you are undertaking/completed, they often approach you and thank you, which is lovely.”

"I raised £972 in during the festive season"

Muakasa Bompetsi from GM Restart continues to volunteered with her church and charity, the UCKG Helpcentre in Manchester, which also fell on the week of their Big Christmas Dinner.

She volunteers throughout the year in the Soup Kitchen/Food Bank, cooking and preparing hot meals for the community, both for those who are homeless and for those who are in need.

She told us:

"This December I took to the streets not only to raise funds, but to also raise awareness for the cause and bring a smile to the Mancunian Public, which I believe we were successful at! By passers joined into our signing and dancing antics, which brought a smile not only to their faces but also to ours. I’ll be back volunteering at the foodbank again in the upcoming days as we work to support those in need in any way we can."
