Looking after your health during the winter months

With the arrival of colder weather, out come our warm sweaters, scarves and gloves, but it's not only about warm clothes – it’s also about runny noses, coughs and pesky colds - including seasonal flu.

Good hand hygiene is the main way to prevent flu and other viruses such as sickness and diarrhoea from spreading. Washing your hands properly removes dirt, viruses and bacteria and stops them passing to other people and objects, which can spread illnesses such as colds, flu, food poisoning or norovirus – the winter vomiting bug. To help to reduce the risks of germs, remember to keep the kitchens and other workspaces clean and disinfected, and take care of yourselves and each other.

Contribution towards the flu vaccination

One of the health and wellbeing benefits GC offer is a contribution towards the flu vaccination, and this year we have increased this to £13.

You can book in and claim for your vaccine from now; please note you must have submitted your expense claim by 31st December.

Below is a list of some of the pharmacies that offer the vaccine, and the associated costs. You may be eligible for free vaccinations with the NHS so it’s worth checking their website for further information.

  • Asda - £13
  • Tesco - £16
  • Superdrug - £19.95 or £9.95 with a beauty card (the beauty card is free to apply for)
  • Boots - £21.95
