Green Economy has been commissioned by West Yorkshire Combined Authority to support the growth of low-carbon technology firms.
This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to grow the green technologies and services sector in Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield.
Amy House, Director of Green Economy said:
“This programme presents a unique opportunity for West Yorkshire to accelerate its Climate and Environmental Plan, whilst ensuring the transition to net zero is fair and just.
“Local installers and suppliers stand to prosper, creating local, green jobs if they can access the new markets that net zero presents. At Green Economy our purpose is to build a greener, net zero economy, powered by local suppliers, but this can only be achieved if we can build confidence in the local sector with a robust network of installers, suppliers and innovators.”
Through fully-funded, expert advice, access to market intelligence, peer networking and training, local firms can grow or diversify into the sector safe in the knowledge that they will be supported by Green Economy’s team of consultants. Green Economy will introduce these businesses to new sales opportunities with a free profile on their Marketplace – a business directory of local green technology suppliers – and bespoke meet the buyer events and projects.
To launch the programme, local installers and suppliers of green technologies including solar panels, EV charging and fleet, heat pumps, LED lighting and retrofit products are invited to join the programme launch event, taking place on Monday 4 March in Leeds. The event will feature presentations from Green Economy’s advisors, local businesses and the Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracey Brabin.
This activity follows hot on the heels of the announcement in December 2023 that Green Economy has been appointed by City of York Council (CYC) to provide business support which will enable 100 local businesses to decarbonise through carbon reduction planning, specialist support and access to green technologies and sensors which will provide live data on energy consumption.
As part of this activity, a selection of businesses will join a pilot energy monitoring programme, where sensors will be installed onsite to monitor their electricity use over a three-month period.
