Here at GC, our volunteering policy, Volunteer2day, allows you to take up to two days leave in any one-year rolling period to volunteer.

You can take your two days leave in hours, half days and full days, and if your volunteering is done outside of the working day, you can claim this time back in lieu. If you have already done volunteering in the calendar year which you would like to count towards your two days, you are able to do this and claim the time back in the same way.

The GM Business Growth Hub Innovation Navigator team went over to Stockport's Cale Green Park and packed-in a raft of tasks on their volunteering day.

Lending a hand on the day where Stephen Slater, Jeremy Goodwin, Russell Mansfield, Oliver Witty, Giulia Molteni, Karen Dudley, Karen Fitzpatrick, Adrian Savage, Sarit Rich, Grace Woodhouse, Gautham Maniyan, Nathan Milnes, Holly Young and Kirstie Buchanan.

About the volunteering experience, Stephen Slater, Innovation Development Manager told us:

"I got involved in clearing vines and bramble, and then helped with sanding some benches before they got a lick of paint. And who doesn't enjoy finding examples of taxidermy hidden in park sheds! It was a fun day out with the team doing something good for the community."

Holly Young, Network Manager, BGH Innovation also volunteered on the day, and told us:

"It was a great day out of the office for the GM Business Growth Hub Innovation Navigator Team. The team showcased their talents in removing old notice boards, painting, litter picking, digging-up an old rose bed, cleaning and sanding park benches, weeding and pruning-back overgrown foliage - I'm please to say that you can now safely walk down the road without fear of being attacked by a rouge bramble!

"A huge thanks to Kirstie Buchanan, who works with us on social value activities, for arranging and the rest of the team for helping keep the park maintained for the local community."

Karen Fitzpatrick, Local Innovation Connector, said:

"We came together to clean up the park and make a positive impact on the local community and the environment. Volunteering is a win-win situation, offering personal growth, community improvement, and environmental benefits."
