Here at GC, our volunteering policy, Volunteer2day, allows you to take up to two days' leave in any one-year rolling period to volunteer.

You can take your two days' leave in hours, half days and full days, and if your volunteering is done outside of the working day, you can claim this time back in lieu. If you have already done volunteering in the calendar year which you would like to count towards your two days, you are able to do this and claim the time back in the same way.

(feedback from the CEO of Cracking Good Food C.I.C. to GC colleagues)

Recently, three colleagues volunteered at Cracking Good Food, with one volunteering her time on her birthday!

Cracking Good Food is an organisation that works collaboratively with others to eradicate food poverty and increase food sustainability in Greater Manchester.

Social Value Specialist Paul Vicario, Emma Connolly, Wellbeing Specialist, and Andrea Morales, Business Advisor-Mentoring Specialist volunteered to help clear and shift kitchen equipment ahead of it being redistributed during Cracking Good Food's Kitchen Kit redistribution event in early December.

The organisation ran the event on 3rd December 2024 aimed at Greater Manchester residents, with the aim of helping them to cook from scratch.

Often people starting out in a time of crisis don't have the kitchen items they need. Cracking Good Food seeks and receives donations from individuals, businesses, schools, etc., of pre-loved kitchen kit.Th ese are then cleaned and safety checked before being redistributed to organisations and individuals in many of Greater Manchester’s most financially deprived communities. Not only does this help to break down the barriers people face when accessing and cooking food, it also saves perfectly good equipment which would otherwise have gone to waste.

"We are really lucky at GC to have volunteering days to spend giving back to our local communities.  We had such a great day with Cracking Good Food and we came away feeling like we had made a positive impact for the charity."
