Community Revival is a not-for-profit voluntary organisation who exist to refresh and revitalise the local community with a range of projects including, training, education, employment, recreation and social activities.
Some of their learners expressed an interest in starting their own business, so our Education & Skills and Business Growth Hub teams worked together to offer-up a dedicated awareness session just for them.
Pearl Unsworth, Contract Manager in the Education & Skills team, worked with Craig Scales, Business Development Executive from the Hub, to deliver a Self-Employment presentation on Wednesday 12th June 2024 at Community Revival’s Chorlton centre.
Over 40 learners were crammed into the classroom , where they learnt about some of the issues they'd need to consider, and the free help that was available to them.
There were lots of questions, and learners spoke about their plans to run childcare, arts/crafts, and cake-making services from their homes – one learner is keen to start a café. A few learners have said they'd definitely be taking advantage of the range of support on offer from GC, and they can’t wait to fulfil their dream of being their own boss!
Craig Scales told us about the energy in the room when delivering the presentation:
“It was an energising session at the Chorlton Community Revival Centre, orchestrated internally by Pearl and me collaborating to make a positive difference. I had the pleasure of guiding a group of enthusiastic adult learners through the pathway to entrepreneurship via our EnterprisingYou programme.
The room was abuzz with questions and engagement as we covered key topics to be explored on the programme. It was incredibly rewarding to witness their passion and soak up that positive energy. Sessions like this remind me why I love empowering people to pursue self-employment and bring their business concepts to life”.
