As part of GM Business Growth Hub’s employer engagement activity, they hosted their first ‘Workplace Safari’ on 11th July with a group of 12 year 9 students from St Ambrose Barlow School, Swinton, Salford.

The safari was created in partnership with the Greater Manchester Combined Authoritie's Employer Engagement Team and the Hub’s Social Impact and Communications & Marketing Teams.

Our aim of the day’s activities was to showcase to students what our organisation does, where and how we operate, and to provide an insight to the students of how our colleagues have joined and developed whilst being at the company.

The morning

The morning’s activities included a site visit of our Lee House offices and an introduction to the GM Business Growth Hub and the services we offer.

Nadir Sultan of the Social Impact Service talked the students through his journey from moving areas, jobs and transitioning into a role on supporting clients on ethical business practices. Nadir also posed a scenario based activity to put the students knowledge to the test on how and why our decisions have an impact on society.

The afternoon

During the afternoon session, Communications & Marketing Team colleague, Shinice Brown, who is Marketing Executive for the Hub, spoke of her journey of training to be a midwife and then transferring her skills and experiences to supporting our teams with engaging with our clients in the most effective and creative ways!

Shinice tasked the group with creating a branding brief for a product launch which needed to factor in; name, audience, marketing and communication routes and it’s unique selling point. The students did a brilliant job in presenting back their thoughts and ideas on both activities.

Matt Richardson, Head of Leadership, Skills and Social Impact for the Hub told us:

"Almost all of the students had never been in an office environment, but conducted themselves brilliantly and were a credit to their school. The first workplace safari was a success and we look forward to welcoming many more students to our organisation.
