To celebrate Black History Month on 16th October our EDI EmbRace network held a fantastic event at Manchester that brought together Embrace members, allies, and friends to:
- Share ideas and engage in meaningful discussions
- Hear from SMT Sponsor Victoria Braddock on career progression and her personal journey
- Explore how Embrace continues to drive real change through our Racial Equity Framework
- Reflect on ways to foster greater inclusion and equality
The event was opened by Victoria Braddock who spoke about her experience as a Black Women in Business, she reflected on progressing throughout GC, and provided suggestions on how to support ethnic community progression within GC. Earlier this year Victoria reflected on her experience and the importance of racial equality in the workplace. You can read her blog here.
This year the EmbRace network have held the following events and activities, celebrating a range of different awareness events to reflect the rich diversity of the diverse ethnic communities EmbRace represents.
- Race Equality Week Webinar
- Refugee Week Webinar
- International Day for Victims of Slave Trade - Infographic Video
- South Asian Heritage Month - Bring a dish to work day, plus a Wellbeing Wednesday Bollyfit session
- World Afro Day Article
They also discussed the reaccreditation for Race Equality Matters Trailblazer status and the networks intent to move on to Silver.
The EmbRace Network continues to be a key EDI network and has provided OD support in the development and roll out of the Cultural Awareness training, the mentor scheme and continues to work to improve retention and progression of diverse ethnic communities across GC.
The meeting was catered by a local Caribbean food supplier.
