GC is working with local football clubs FC United and Mossley AFC to train aspiring security professionals to join the workforce at Co-op Live.
The clubs will welcome learners who are completing a level 2 Certificate in Spectator Safety to their grounds on match days to complete their final assessments and work alongside experienced stewards to enhance their experience with crowd management, access control, emergency protocols and other essential aspects of event security in a live event setting.
Earlier this week, FC United welcomed a group of learners to their site to take part in a simulated assessment day and put their skills to the test, carrying out site searches and other procedures required in the role of a steward.
Lewis Wilkinson, one of the learners who took part in the simulated assessment session, said:
“I've always been a huge music fan so being able to help people enjoy music safely is a huge bonus for me. Through the course I’ve learnt a lot about the correct procedures and the importance of good customer service, being friendly and having open communication, especially to support guests with additional accessibility needs or those who may not be proficient in English.
"The simulation session has really helped me get to grips with things that I hadn’t quite grasped, such as carrying out searches, so it has been really beneficial to have this real-life experience.”
