Our Wigan construction learners have been out in the local community, helping the Leigh Miners Bowling Association renovate their changing rooms and the area around the green.
The 12 learners were accompanied by tutors Dave McGarty and Jackie Morgan, who used one of their two GC Volunteering Days (our volunteering policy, Volunteer2day, allows you to take up to two days leave in any one-year rolling period to volunteer).
Leigh Miners fed back after the event:
“We’d like to thank the Growth Company learners and staff for coming to our volunteer day. The adverse weather conditions went against them, but the work that was carried out was very much appreciated by the bowling community. Hopefully, next time we can have a dry day and the learners can have a go at bowling.”
Dave and Jackie commented that:
“The volunteer day was the perfect opportunity for our learners to put the skills they are learning in the workshop to good use and help their local community. The learners had a great day despite the weather, and have already asked if they can return to carry out more work – but we think that may be because the bowlers treated us to hotdogs at lunchtime!”
