Each year, the third week of June is Learning Disability Week (17th-23rd June). The event is organised every year by the learning disability charity, Mencap. It aims to improve the quality of life for individuals with learning disabilities by raising awareness about important issues, fighting stigma and discrimination, and raising funds for outreach and support programs. The theme for this year's Learning Disability Week is 'Do you see me?'.
During Learning Disability Week, GC are running a Disability Inclusion Lunch and Learn on Thursday 20th June (1-2 pm) for all colleagues to join to explore approaches to support disabled people in an inclusive, open way.
As part of our ongoing commitment to being a Disability Confident Leader and to promote inclusive practices, we've developed Disability Inclusion training sessions for both managers and colleagues.
The bitesize session will:
- Increase understanding of how to use the Social Model of Disability to remove any potential barriers disabled people may face
- Provide practical use of enabling terminology
- Explore approaches to support disabled people in an inclusive, open way
- include a Q&A
You can register for the session on PAL here.
If you require any reasonable adjustments to make the session more accessible, then please get in contact with the Learning and Development team.
