Coronavirus - planning our next steps

Over the weekend the Government will share its plans for how the current lockdown measures will change enabling the economy to start to reopen and to ease some of the personal pressures many of us have faced over the last few months. As I mentioned last week, this means that calls on us to contribute to the economic recovery through the vital business, employment and skills support we deliver have accelerated. I’d like to use this opportunity to outline our emerging thinking on how GC will approach extending its operations and start a discussion between you and your managers on how we reflect the needs of our colleagues, clients and business financial sustainability in our approach.

Many of you have already shared your thoughts and ideas on how we can move forward and our current thinking can be found here. As you know this is a very fluid situation and, like you, we are reviewing developments on a continuous basis.  The document sets out a number of planning assumptions, from which a series of operational actions flow as to how we will approach extending our operations, whilst at all times being guided by our Core Values and Public Health England guidance. For example, we assume that Government advice to work from home if you can will remain in place, so there will be no single reopening of all our facilities but a phased approach over time and flexed according to evolving circumstances.

Please do take the opportunity to input as we need to ensure we understand the many issues in moving back to some ‘physical’ delivery as we go forward.

Your work continues to have major beneficial impact on the individuals and businesses we support as many of you will see from the increasing number of unprompted positive feedback we are getting from clients. Again, I really appreciate your efforts and sacrifices whether you are continuing similar activity (possibly via different means), moved temporarily into a different activity or role, or on a period of furlough, as you are all contributing to our purpose and continuity.

I hope you all have a great bank holiday weekend and that the sun continues to shine.
