On Friday 31st January, colleagues from our Preston Restart Scheme took on a six-mile walk to raise money for Walking with the Wounded, as part of their Walking Home annual winter fundraising campaign.

Walking With the Wounded provides employment, care, housing and mental health support to those who have served in the Armed Forces.

A team of 13 colleagues used a half day of their volunteering time to take part in the walk around Preston, leaving the office at 1.30 pm.

The team set a target of £500 to raise for the charity, but actually raised an impressive total of £831.31!

Matt Parker, who organised the walk, said: "It's fair to say the sponsored walk was a massive success. We aimed to raise £500 to support Walking with the Wounded and the fine work they do regarding mental health support, employment, care and housing. The planned walk was through Preston linking in with the river and a number of local parks in the city. In all the team managed to cover just under eight miles. To make the afternoon even more special we managed to raise £831.31.

"Sore feet, some tired limbs and lots of chat, it was a great way to use our volunteering time and to support those less fortunate than ourselves. Mission accomplished."
