GC Employment colleagues recently attended the launch of the Salford City Council ‘Salford Employment Hub’.

The Hub brings together, and adds additional capacity to, a number of existing Salford City Council services for young people, adults and employers – signposting them to specialist provision and access to recruitment and business support for employers in a ‘one stop shop’ service.

Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett, and Councillor Bill Hinds opened the event, and GC colleagues Michelle Handley (Senior Training & Curriculum Manager) and Dee Garner (Team Manager, SEARCH, Salford Employer team) presented the GC offer for adults, young people and employers.

GC’s Managing Director for Employment, Michelle Leeson, was part of a panel discussion at the event, facilitated by Mat Ainsworth, Director of Skills, Work and Inclusive Economy at Salford City Council. Michelle said:

"GC has a very strong partnership with Salford City Council, and we have delivered a range of services in the city over the last 15+ years. We are delighted to have been awarded the contract to continue delivering in the area, and the Salford Employment Hub is an exciting new initiative for the city and its residents."

GC’s face-to-face service provides Salford residents with career information, advice and guidance, access to jobs and support with applications, skills and training support, pre and post-employment. The team deliver jobs and skills finder sessions in gateways and satellite hubs in community libraries, as well as job match utilising employer and partnership consultants, wider GC and Salford City Council networks.

The team also provides targeted information, advice and guidance (IAG) support for residents with more complex barriers, including working closely with the Salford City Council Early Help team, priority referrals for residents with complex needs, or those belonging to a defined characteristic, as well as referrals to specialist provision.

Michelle Handley told us:

"GC has been delivering services for Salford City Council for many years, and we are very excited by this new contract and initiative, which brings together partners and organisations from across the city to create a ‘single front door’ for skills and work services in Salford."
