Recovery Works supports families and children during the festive season
Recovery Works is a charity and part of GC, which helps to improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in society. It offers personalised support to over 1,000 people per year helping them to recover from addiction, improve their physical and mental wellbeing as well as secure sustainable employment.

The charity operates in partnership with Change Grow Live (CGL) to support people with their substance misuse issues whilst offering a wraparound support to their families and children.

Mark Little, Partnership Manager – Substance Abuse in our Employment team said:

"Christmas can be a difficult time of year for many people, especially the families and children of our service users, and this led to CGL in Sefton, St Helens, Warrington and Wirral holding events for families and their children in December – including Christmas grottos, with with up to 76 children expected to attend each event. GC supported these events by donating to the gift appeal."

Volunteering Day to visit HMP Humber with ‘Sing Inside’

Imogen Webbe, Team Lead for GC-Employment’s Activity Hubs contract in York and Scarborough, took a volunteering day before Christmas to visit HMP Humber with ‘Sing Inside’ – a charity who go into prisons to deliver singing workshops.

Imogen and the group took part in the annual Christmas Carol Concert in the prison chapel and delivered a singing workshop to 15 inmates. In the afternoon, everyone performed in front of fellow wing mates, prison governors, and local stakeholders.

Imogen explained: "It was a fantastic opportunity to go into a prison, (a first for me), and I thoroughly enjoyed the day. It gave me an insight into the experiences of the participants we support who have spent time in prison, and I will definitely value this experience in my job role going forward’".
