Learner success story

Simon Gregory, Skills Development Tutor - Technical Sectors recently helped one of his learners (Scott Frew) achieve his Auto Care Level 2 End Point Assessment (EPA). Simon explains:

"Scott came to us after achieving his Level 1 diploma with another college. He then went to another training provider for his Level 2 and was unhappy about the lack of support, and this put him off college work.

"At first Scott wasn’t keen to travel to Trafford Park and because of his previous experience with the other training provider – he was a bit apprehensive. However, after a few months of our pastoral support, care and encouragement, regular employer visits/reviews, being mentored in the workplace and with regular communication with the Halford’s group apprenticeship co-ordinator, Scott quickly saw the long-term goal.

"He's now progressing on to our Light Vehicle Level 3 programme commencing this September. Personally, I feel a sense of achievement with the progress that Scott has made, and the experience has helped us to develop a good working relationship with the Halfords group – we're now recruiting for a Halford’s apprenticeship group of around 15 learners commencing their learner journeys in August."

Alex Hirst, Halford’s Group Apprenticeship Co-ordinator for the region told us:

“Scott has come a long way since starting his apprenticeship. There have been hiccups here and there, but Scott has always given 110% where he can, and this shows now that he has successfully passed his Level 2 programme.

"Scott is extremely focused on his future career within the automotive industry and is now progressing onto the Level 3 programme with The Growth Company. I look forward to Scott completing Level 3 and watching him grow his development and skill and becoming a fully qualified MOT tester in the near future. A big thank you to all involved at The Growth Company for the huge amount of support and learning you give our Apprentices.”
