Earlier this week, the Aspire Recruitment team, including Business Managers Frank Kinrade and Ruth Metcalfe, took over Primark, Manchester on behalf of Breast Cancer Now and we engaged with shoppers about the importance of being breast aware and regularly checking their breasts. We also promoted the incredible work Breast Cancer Now is doing across the UK.

We were surprised to learn that nearly half of the people we spoke to rarely or have never checked themselves, which is concerning. This applies to both men and women!

About the activity, Abi Macleod, Head of Aspire Recruitment told us:

"I am incredibly proud of Frank, and I would like to say thank you to Ruth for supporting us, and a big thank you from our team to GC colleagues across the network for supporting Frank’s work too. This is an incredibly important charity, which touches everyone. It is important to note that over 400 men per year are also diagnosed with breast cancer and if we have raised awareness for just one person through this event then we have been successful."

Breast Cancer Facts in the UK:

  • Around 55,000 women and 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year.
  • Another 7,000 people are diagnosed with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) annually.
  • An estimated 600,000 people are living after a breast cancer diagnosis.
  • Sadly, 11,500 women and 85 men die from breast cancer each year.

We’d love for you to join us in raising awareness! On Friday, 18th October, join colleagues to wear it pink and join our breast cancer awareness session at 1pm. The calendar invite has been published.

Additionally, we are raising money to support Breast Cancer Now’s vital research and services for those affected by breast cancer. To help, please visit our JustGiving page where colleagues have already raised over £300 - thank you!
