Throughout August, the training centres across Greater Manchester and St Helens hosted another successful Summer Programme. It takes place each year and allows young people aged 16-18 to get involved in a month of fun, meet new people, take part in enrichment activities, gain an accredited qualification, and learn some valuable life skills. Summer 2023 saw our largest numbers yet, with over 600 learners taking part.
We hosted guest speakers, including the Army, the Police, the RNLI, The Daniel Fox Foundation, and local Sexual Health teams. We also enjoyed trips out to our local fire stations to learn about a day in the life, tours of Manchester United’s stadium, MOSI, Bowling, Indoor Climbing, Ninja Warrior, and the Cinema.
Centres that offer construction in their curriculum also gave learners the opportunity to work on a team project. Learners at Wigan designed and built toolboxes for the workshop to use and birdboxes that were donated to local care homes.
